Petition Letter: Hi my name is Michael Rapson and I am currently enrolled as a student in your bachelor of arts program. Unfortunately, I have decided to withdraw in good standing due to personal reasons and will not be finishing the school year at Queen¿¿s University. I have been able to leave all of my full year courses in good standing but was unable to drop my Geography course due to the fact that I have passed the allotted time frame required to leave the course with good standing.
The extenuating circumstances regarding my departure are due to psychological reasons.
I have not yet visited a counsellor to discuss this but plan on doing so in the weeks upon my arrival at home. A week before the school year started I suddenly lost one of my best friends and mentor, my grandfather. It was a shock to our entire family and we still haven¿¿t completely come to terms with his passing yet. I started the school year strong getting all my work done in time and doing well on my assignments but after about a month into the school year I went into a state of depression that I still haven¿¿t been able to fully pull myself out of. I started to feel helplessly home sick, stopped doing my work and began avoiding every single person I had started to form friendships with for no other reason than no longer wanting to associate with people. I¿¿ve never had such a feeling in my entire life.
I believe the loss of my grandfather and the emotional toll of leaving home all within the same week took its toll on me and slowly began to eat away at me until I no longer had any motivation to do anything. I decided enough was enough and I had to make a change. I talked to my parents about the problem and told them I needed to come home in order to regroup and become mentally prepared before I chose to go down this path again. Unfortunately, by this point I was only able to get out of all of my full year and winter term courses in good standing but missed the deadline to drop my Geography course.
The reason I took so long to finally come to this decision was the fact that I didn¿¿t have the courage to tell my parents I needed to come home and when I finally did I had passed the deadline to drop Geography. I would love the opportunity to attend Queens University again once I¿¿ve been able to properly deal with the problems going on in my life. I plan on taking the rest of the year to work and establish a life plan so this situation will never happen again.
Please allow me to withdraw in good academic standing from Human Geography.
Thank you for your consideration.
Michael Rapson
