Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing to add three courses, CISC 497, ASTR 101, and APSC 221, to the Fall term of 2015 due to administrative difficulties.

Prior to requesting these courses, I was granted a course overload of 21.0 units for the Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 semesters. I have done well academically in previous semesters with this course load.

CISC 497:
There is a direct conflict between this course and CISC 498A, which I am also enrolled in. These are both mandatory courses for my degree. Students were instructed to enroll in one or the other and that they would be automatically added to the missing course. This is a general case that effected many students in Computer Science.

When I added CISC 498A, I was not added to CISC 497 by an administrator. This was originally thought to be due to there having been a hold on my account. This hold was paid on September 18th, well before the course add deadline.

I have spoken with professor Janice Glasgow about attending the course. She acknowledged that I was to attend the course. I have completed assignments and group work as if enrolled in the course.

ASTR 101 & APSC 221:
On the multiple occasions I attempted to add these courses myself on SOLUS, I received an error. As such, I asked our administrator, Irene LaFleche, to add me to the courses. She informed me that she would not be able to until the hold on the account, (which was done on September 18th) was addressed. After having paid the fees, I was not added to the courses.

Professors Dave Hanes (ASTR 101) and Jan Sneep (APSC 221) have permitted me to attend their courses. I have completed and submitted evaluations as an enrolled student. Professor Jan Sneep ensured that I had D2L access for APSC 221 so that I would not be disadvantaged.

I acknowledge that this appeal should have been sent earlier in the semester. At this point, I have been active in all three courses as an enrolled student. I am preparing for their exams.
