Petition Letter: Dr. Johanne Bénard,
I hope you are well. I am a second year Life Sciences major, World Language Studies minor and I have been studying Spanish P10 as a contribution to my minor this fall term. I originally checked my exam schedule on SOLUS not long after it came out and booked my train ride home based on this schedule. At that time, my exam schedule read that my Spanish P10 exam was on December 21 at 7pm, and I booked a train home the following morning December 22. Today, December 16, I wrote a Physiology exam in Bartlett gym and happened to notice on the blackboard on my way out that Spanish P10 was being written in Bartlett at 7pm today. I hurried home and checked my schedule on SOLUS and saw it now reads December 16 at 7pm. I emailed my professor Dr. Daniel Chamberlain and he informed me that the department does not offer alternate dates to take the exam this semester and that I should appeal to write it next term.
For that reason, I ask that you allow me to write my Spanish P10 exam in the winter term slot. This error on SOLUS has strongly affected my ability to write the exam since I did not have a chance to review the material. I had been spending my study time on Physiology and my upcoming Chemistry exam (on December 18) and thought that I had almost 5 days until Spanish. I was intending in that time to complete the practice tests at the end of each chapter of my textbook (of which I had previously completed two out of six), review the vocabulary for each chapter, and complete some of the in-text exercises like translating paragraphs of text to prepare for this exam. The two hours that I had between discovering my exam was today and the start of my exam was not sufficient to complete this work.
I have been working hard in this class, participating and doing well on my tests, we wrote two tests this semester and I achieved an 88 and an 80. I think this shows I had every intention of thoroughly studying for and writing this 35 exam on time. This error in my exam schedule on SOLUS has been a real shock and I hope that you will consider my request to write this exam in the winter term.
Have a wonderful holiday,
Emma Lachance Linklater

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Dr. Johanne Bénard,
To succeed in the winter term, I would continue to review my material over the next couple of months. I would complete the six end-of-chapter tests, review the vocabulary, and complete the in-text exercises that I had intended. I am also studying Spanish 112 in the winter term and I am sure that will continue to help prepare me for this exam.
I will compare my exam schedule to those of my peers to ensure that this kind of error could be caught and corrected earlier much earlier in the future.
Thank you so much for the consideration,
Emma Lachance Linklater
