Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing this appeal letter due to my unfortunate loss prior to writing the STAT263 exam. I completed all of the course work and quizzes prior to the exam successfully. Early morning on Monday December 7th, I lost my boyfriend's father to a brutal battle of Stage 4 stomach cancer. Gus treated me as his own daughter for many months and I became very close to him. As someone who suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, I believe that the tragic loss affected my performance while writing the STAT263 exam. I am currently medicated for my anxiety and even though I had a strong support system after my Gus's passing, I still had to leave Kingston to go to Toronto for the funeral immediately after the exam. The emotional stress of this event most likely caused me to draw many blanks while writing this exam. Considering that I was successful in completing all previous course work, I just feel as though this exam was not a true reflection of my knowledge in the course. I am capable of doing well in the course and my final mark may not reflect this. I want to request a CR in this course as I am looking to transfer programs and I do not want this kind of grade to follow me throughout my academic career.

Hopefully I can be considered for a CR in STAT263.

Thank you for your understanding,

Taryn Zeger
