Petition Letter: Dear Dr. J. Hugh Horton:
I am appealing to drop ECON 240 (winter 2014) Canadian Tax Policy.
When I first arrived at my new house for the 2013-2014 school year I was excited and happy. Shortly after moving in, we had major issues with one of our housemates. The police, campus security and legal aid were all involved with this person making the beginning of my year off to a rocky start. I didn't think his actions had such a great effect on me as they showed later on. We had to deal with this roommate the entire school year even after he was taken off our lease because of his actions. In the midst of all of this I also quit football. I was becoming depressed with everything around me and I had no drive to play anymore. The stress of school, football and my housemate played a major toll on my mental health. I went to see a councilor shortly before exams to see what I could do to try and get myself out of this depression. It was very challenging for me to accept that there was something wrong with my mental health; therefore, it took me longer reach out to professionals. Since then, I consulted with a counselor at the school that helped me plan moving forward. This includes taking an interest test to help me build on my personal interests and to pursue my goals.
My future plan is to move forward with school. I do not plan on playing football for the 2014-2015 school year because I want to concentrate on my studies and pay more attention to all my other interests. I want to become more involved with different activities because it opens my mind to all the possibilities that the school and the community have to offer. This winter I started volunteering for the Queens Career Services and I really enjoyed it, I would like to continue volunteering for the years to come. I would also like to explore other options that the school and community provides because by playing a varsity sport for the first two years of my university career I feel like I have only seen a small portion of what the school has to offer.
