Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Associate Dean of Studies,
My name is Kimberly Caldwell, and I am a fourth year Sociology major student in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences as well as the Concurrent Education Faculty. I am writing to appeal to add SOCY301: Selected Topics in Sociology to my schedule late.
At the beginning of this semester I received an email from the Concurrent Education Assistant stating that I was enrolled in the appropriate number of courses this semester to move into final year of Con-Ed next year. However, after applying to graduate with the Faculty of Arts and Science I was informed that I actually am still in need of 3.0 credits in sociology to graduate. As soon as I received this e-mail I met with Michelle Underhill, the sociology Undergraduate Program Assistant who informed me that I would need to appeal to add the course. She explained that what could have happened was that, if there was still a course in my shopping cart on Solus, then it would have looked like I was in 6 courses, or 18.0 credits for this winter semester when I was actually only enrolled in 5 courses, or 15.0 credits, with the other 3.0 credit in my shopping cart.
As I was made aware of this yesterday, Monday, January 18th, and the last day for the add/drop period for courses for this semester was Friday, January 12th, I need to appeal to get into this course. According to Solus there are forty-four seats available still for the lecture, and therefore I have started to attend these lectures. Both lectures for this course fit into my schedule of courses for this semester. I have also asked a friend in the course for the syllabus and the notes from the lectures I missed already, to make sure I get caught up as soon as possible.
I have successfully emailed both the Chair of Undergraduate Studies for Sociology, Martin Hand, and the instructor of the course, David Murakami Wood, who both have given me permission to enroll in SOCY301 late.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: As stated above I have already begun to attend the lectures for this course. I have also reached out to a friend in the course to get notes from them on the lectures I have missed already due to this unfortunate mix up. I have also asked this student for the syllabus, so I can search and complete the required readings while I am waiting to gain access to them via moodle.
I am a hard working dedicated student, and if it were not for the e-mail explaining that I was enrolled in the appropriate number of courses to move into my final year of Concurrent Education, requiring me to have successfully completed my major degree, I would have made sure I was in this course already.
I plan to be caught up with the readings and the lecture notes, to fully understand the material I have missed, by the end of this weekend. Therefore, I can begin next weeks classes all caught up and ready to move on in the class.
I sincerely hope this request will be granted to add SOCY:301 to my schedule in order for me to successfully complete my undergraduate degree, and graduate this spring.
Thank you very much in advance for your consideration.
Best Wishes,
Kimberly Caldwell
