Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Although the academic appeal process is 21 days, I feel very strongly that my circumstances prevented me from appealing within the given time period. If granted the permission to submit an appeal, it will be concerning my winter semester and summer semester. Before my winter final exams, I experienced something I would never wish onto someone else and was raped. The emotional and mental impact of this was extremely extensive, and I have only recently been able to talk about the experience and start figuring out how to rebuild my life and recognize myself again. Academics and scholarship have always been one of the most important things to me, but within a circumstance such as this, day to day life had become had become extremely challenging and at times not worth it to continue in any aspect.

I did not know of any services that were available to me through the school for what had happened until the end of first semester. This was when the appeal process was explained to me, and I was told that I could look into it for my situation. Writing this appeal is extremely difficult for me as it causes me to have flashbacks, so I will admit it has taken a bit longer than I would have liked to complete it. At this time, though I am finally in a mental state where I can begin to deal with the impact it has had on my life in ways I wish it hadn¿¿t, which does include my academic standings.

Between the severe personal impacts due to the event, and not being aware of the appeal process or the fact that it was relevant to my situation until recently, I would very much appreciate the chance to appeal my academics as they stand. Thank you for your time and consideration.
