Petition Letter: Appeal Letter
To: Associate Dean (Studies)
I am appealing to join CISC 425 (Winter 2016 section 1, class code: 2009), taught by Professor Roel Vertegaal.
I am a 4th year Computing Student in the CSCI specialization looking to graduate in the Spring 2016. Doing five 400 level courses is a requirement for my program and this would have been the fifth one I need in order to graduate. Initially, when I selected courses in the Summer 2015, I was enrolled in CISC 490 (Fuzzy Logic taught by Professor Robin Dawes Winter 2016). However, during the Open Enrollment period at the start of the Winter term, I switched out of CISC 490 and into CISC 332, since it suited more of my interests. I had forgotten the requirement that I needed one more 400 level course to fulfill my degree requirements. It wasn¿¿t until a week after the last day to add, swap or drop courses (without financial penalty) that I was made aware that I was short one 400 level course by the Undergraduate Program Assistant in the School of Computing, Irene LaFleche.
I have spoken with Professor Vertegaal and have received his consent to join the full course, and attend lectures to catch up with the work. Moreover, I also have his consent to have the prerequisite requirement waived. Getting up to speed with the course work will not be a challenging task as I do not have many hours of class this term and am only doing three courses currently. Prof. Vertegaal has informed me of what I have missed these past few weeks and I am already in the process of catching up.
As this is a matter of urgency, I would appreciate your prompt response so I am able to enroll in this course as soon as possible and thus, meet my program requirements.
Sincerely,
Joel Thomas
