Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: It is with great determination that I request a return to the Faculty of Arts & Science. Contrary to the outline provided for submitting an appeal, I do not have any documentation to support extenuating circumstances that led to my poor academic performance at Queen's nearly 20 years ago.

During my time at Queen's, I struggled to financially support my education and as a result, my studies suffered. I attempted part-time work as a means to support the cost of student life, but the work hours and pay did not provide sufficient funds to cover all expenses. As my part-time position developed into a full-time job, my stress levels increased and my grades continued to decline and courses were eventually dropped. I devoted my time to working, when I should have been attending classes and studying. I was not able to find the right balance at that time.

Following a requirement to withdrawal for three years, issued in 2001, I moved to Montreal where education costs and living expenses were not as financially demanding. I completed a three-year Fashion Marketing and Merchandising diploma with honours from College LaSalle. I was employed immediately following graduation as an Import Coordinator for a garment company in Montreal. I was promoted after one year to Brand Manager, where I oversaw product development and marketing for a global brand of baby apparel. After three years of employment, I resigned and relocated to Toronto, where I accepted a position at Haggar Canada Co. as Executive Assistant to the President. Within one year, I was promoted to Marketing Coordinator, managing all in-store marketing, campaigns, and advertising initiatives.

After almost a decade in the garment industry, a position that demanded long hours and often involved overseas travel, it was with careful consideration that I decided to shift into a career that would provide a better work/life balance. At that time, I accepted a position at RBC Bank, acting as Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Personal Financing. I have been in the role for three years now and will be promoted shortly to Project Coordinator for the Personal Financing department. Completing my degree would be a necessary next step in order to continue on an upward career path.
