Petition Letter: to whom it may concern, I am applying to submit a late appeal to have my mark from Stats 263 changed to a credit received, and to have my CISC 101 grade dropped from my transcripts. The reason I have waited this long to submit my appeal is because I wanted to make sure I was well enough to stay in school this semester and hopefully not have any more appeals. I have been rcovering from a concussion since January 3, 2015, since a concussion is a cognitive thing i had to wait until it was late enough in the semester that things were underway so i could see if I could handle all of the school work and mange my symptoms okay. this semester my symptoms have been much less then they were last semester. If they had not gotten any better I would have taken the semester off. But I have seen a noticeable decrease so i have determined with my doctor that I will be healthy enough to finish the semester. Even tho I was enrolled in CISC 101 last winter I did not finish it until last semester due to a concussion. These choices whether to stay in school or to take a semester off have been hard choice for me to make because concussions are such a grey area and no one can really judge how long the symptoms will take to go away. Over the past few years at Queens I suffered from depression which I am now getting help with, but as soon as I started getting helped I suffered from a major concussion that did not seem major at first. If I had known how long it would have taken for me to recover I would have taken some time off. In the fall I was enrolled in 4 courses plus finishing my CISC 101 from last winter. which added up to 5 courses. I underestimated my abilities and I thought I was more recovered than I was. I am still being monitored by both my family doctor and neurosurgeon. I should have dropped CISC 101 instead of trying to finish this past semester. I decided if my concussion symptoms did not get better that I would have taken the semester off. I came back to school and my symptoms have been greatly reduced and are not impacting my school work nearly as much. I am doing everything I can to get better including chiropractic therapy that works with people with concussion to work on my cognitive symptoms to improve them even more. Along with the concussion I have been recovering from mental illnesses which include being on medication and a psychologist. needless to say I have had plenty of things that have impacted my academic performance. If i was not doing better I would have not been back this semester.
