I have had my mental health case management team contact Queen's wellness services (Which I was registered at while I was a Student at the Queen's Campus) and was provided with the following direction: This appeal is to the Associate Deans and I am requesting a late drop for medical reasons. Below are the following credits I would like dropped from my transcript:
PHIL 257B Ethics 6.00
PHGY 210 Physiology for Health Sciences 6.00
PHIL 203 Science and Society 3.00
My Extenuating circumstance is as follows:
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder last year(2015). During my time at Queen's I had been repeatedly misdiagnosed and overly and wrongly medicated, which, severely hindered my abilities to complete my studies because I had not been receiving the proper treatment for my condition. I will tell you about my Queen's experience to illustrate how my mismanaged condition directly affected my studies. As a student at Queen's University my symptoms had started in second year causing me to go through bouts of depression and breakdowns that made it very difficult to attend my classes and complete my studies. For the rest of my time at queen's, the two years that would follow I had been misdiagnosed and put on a gamut of different medications that hindered my abilities even further, making it almost impossible to carry out my studies successfully and to live a healthy life for the matter. My failure in Ethics (257B) resulted from me being wrongly medicated making it very challenging for me to function and complete my examinations in the course. As for PHGY 210 and PHIL203 I signed up for these correspondences courses while I was in Toronto. Around this time I was very ill from the wrongly prescribed medication and was getting off them. Getting off these medication resulted in me having to go the hospital two times, once to be put on an IV because I was throwing up so much and secondly for suicidal thoughts which resulted in the hospital enrolling me in month long psychological recovery program. Because of this I was enable to finish or complete my courses. The process to get better has been long overdue, I moved to Vancouver in 2015 and have been properly diagnosed with bipolar and put on proper bipolar medication. I am asking to waive the 21 day appeal deadline because I hadn't been in a healthy enough state of mind to deal with my academics until now. It has taken a long time to adjust to the medication and I now finally feel better, able and ready to move forward. Having the courses above dropped will greatly help me move along in my future, healed and feeling better than ever.
