To: The Associate Dean (Studies)
I am appealing to drop from COMM 251 with the knowledge that this request is after the drop date.
We received our midterm exams grades the Tuesday after the drop date. Previous to this we had not received any other grades. Therefore, I did not know where I stood academically in this class. After receiving my midterm mark I realize there will be little chance of succeeding in this course due to the fact that there are only a couple opportunities to improve my grade. In addition I have come to realize that my full course load is not manageable as it creates stress and anxiety which is taking a toll on the success in all my courses. I am a registered student with disability services. I have consulted an academic advisor and regularly work with a disability consultant. Both have advised me to drop the course in order to lighten my course load. I would have done so before the drop date if I had received the marks earlier to show that this is the course I am struggling most in.
Going forward, I will be cautious about taking on a full course load. I will also take further advantage of the services offered through disability services to support my studies and manage my stress. I will also consult an academic advisor and will consider taking one course over the summer semester rather than taking a full course load during the school year.
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Emma Cullen Shaw
