Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To Whom it May Concern:

I was recently affected by extenuating circumstances in my courses and am requesting an appeal to drop ITLN P10 late.

I have a documented struggle with anxiety and a panic disorder for about the past year, and although I am on medication to control most of the side affects, I was recently under a period of extreme pressure (approx. April 20 until the present), which did not allow the medication to provide any relief.

I have not yet been diagnosed for depression, but my symptoms feel similar, and I am booking an appointment with my doctor to follow up - however, the wait time is often upwards of three weeks.

These circumstances very much crept up on me and I did not realize their affects until very recently. As such, I did not inform anyone explicitly and did not think to drop the course before the deadline.

During this time, it was very difficult for me to even think about attending Italian P10. As a language course, it is much more difficult to catch up on than my other classes. I missed class attendance, participation, as well as the contribution to a group presentation.

All in all, I am doing poorly in the course, which is very unlike me.

Currently, my circumstances seem to be receding, but I do plan to visit my doctor at Student Wellness Services as soon as possible.

With the results of a doctor's appointment, I plan be more proactive in my health and recognize if I am under too much stress earlier rather than later. I also have learned that perhaps language courses are not the best option for me to fulfill my elective requirements, so that if these circumstances ever happen again, I will not be in the same position.
