Petition Letter: Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to appeal my PSYC100 course (fall, winter term). Since the beginning of the first semester I have struggled with this course. This is the first time in my academic career that I have struggled to keep good marks. I spoke with my parents frequently and we assumed it to be, ¿¿away from home jitters.¿ As the months passed and with much studying, my grades were not improving. I started getting depressed and it got to the point that my mother had to drive 4 hours to come and visit me to keep my spirits up and to help me keep things in perspective.
After Christmas things did not improve even though I was doing well in my other classes. I struggled with the fact that there were no assignments, only participation marks and exams. My mother wanted me to go and talk to the office for students with abilities. I had done so once before. I felt that I could handle writing the exams on my own without any extra allotted time or without a smaller class setting to write the exams. In retrospect I should have left my pride at the door and took the items that I was allotted on my IEP that were put in place to help me.
I also realized that I may have gone through a slight depression when I realized my boyfriend of 4 years did not get accepted into Queens. My mother was a constant support through first semester. I feel I have done much better this second semester and I was hoping that this one class wouldn¿¿t hurt my GPA. I would be very humbled if you could consider me for an appeal to drop the course.
Sincerely;
Laurel Grant
