Dear Associate Dean Bénard,

My name is Ching Tiffany Huang, and I am currently a third year Kinesiology student at Queen's University. I am writing in hopes that you will consider my request to enroll in a total of 9.0 units from Dalhousie University over the Fall and Winter semesters in the 2016/2017 school year.

I take great interest in the field of disability related studies, but have not been able to find specialized courses at Queen's. Upon learning about the Disability Management Certificate Program offered by Dalhousie, I decided that it is something I would love to take part in. Although there was much uncertainty at the beginning of the process, I have consulted my academic advisors regarding my interest of enrolling in this program, and have successfully eased my concerns. Together, my advisors and I have come up with a feasible academic plan that would allow me to graduate from my program on time while simultaneously completing Dalhousie's certificate program. The courses I will be taking through Dalhousie will in no way replace my core requirements, and will only serve as my electives.

Lastly, for clarification purposes, the certificate program entails 4 courses with a total of 12.0 units. However, I have received my letter of permission to take the introductory course (DISM 3010) in Summer 2016, which leaves 9.0 units to be completed in the 2016/2017 school year. Outlined below is a detailed academic plan on how I will meet my degree requirements while completing the certificate program with Dalhousie:

I have to fulfill a total of 30 units in my fourth year in order to graduate with my peers in the Spring of 2017. Out of the 30 units: 9.0 are required to be 400-level or above, which I will match with one 400-level HLTH transfer course (3.0), KNPE 400 (3.0), and KNPE 436 (3.0); 6.0 units are required to fit the Psychology and Sociocultural of Physical Activity and Health category, which I will match with HLTH 315 (3.0) and KNPE 365 (3.0); 3.0 units are required to fit the Health Promotion category, which I will match with one 300-level HLTH transfer course (3.0); 3.0 units are required to be under the Laboratory category, which KNPE 365 double counts for; 3.0 units in a 200-level or above Natural or Physical Science is also required, which I will match by taking BIOL 319 (3.0); lastly, to fulfill the 9.0 units of electives in any subject at any level, I will match with FRST 105 (3.0), one 400-level HLTH transfer course (3.0), and KNPE 450 (3.0). I have attached a letter from my faculty to show their support for my plan.

It is with much sincerity that I ask for your permission and appeal on this issue. I have recently been granted official acceptance into Dalhousie's certificate program, and it is with great respect that I ask for your consideration of my request. I genuinely believe that completing this certificate program will be of great benefit to me in pursuing higher education, as well as strengthening my profile in preparation for my future career path.
