Petition Letter: Wednesday March 30, 2016

To whom this may concern,

My name is Lindsay Muchnik and I am a third year Bachelor of Arts Honours student majoring in Sociology. I am writing to you in regards to a course that I am currently enrolled in, CLST 201. When I was mapping out my courses for this academic year, I saw CLST 201 as a unique opportunity for me to expand my knowledge in a way that I had never before. Roman History is an area of study that I had little experience with, but felt the need to explore it in order to gain the most value throughout my time at Queen¿¿s. Although I have learned a lot, unfortunately my marks are not representative of my efforts. This is an issue that I have not experienced throughout this academic year or any year, in any other course, which displays a lack of representation of my work ethic and overall academic success. I am an extremely conscientious worker, which is the main reason as to why I did not drop this course before the academic deadline. I was confident that my efforts would pay off by redeeming myself on the second midterm, but unfortunately this did not pan out as I had hoped regardless of my great efforts.

Although I am willing to accept the fact that CLST 201 may not be my area of expertise, I do not feel as if I should be penalized for taking this risk and expanding my knowledge to new heights. I see there being a major penalization in the near future for me in regards to this grade, as I plan on applying to graduate schools next year. I truly am a passionate student who works strenuously in order to succeed, and having CLST 201 hinder my acceptances to graduate programs would be completely devastating. Although I am already preparing for the final exam which is taking place on April 21st, 2016, I am requesting for this course to be dropped from my transcript due to these extenuating circumstances. This is an issue that I do not expect to reoccur, due to the new integration of the personal interest credit for the upcoming academic year. Overall, I truly have enjoyed the material throughout the CLST 201 course and I plan on continuing my growth of knowledge within the Sociology program as well as the personal interest credit initiative. However, I feel as if my decision to take CLST 201 is truly admirable, and not a decision that should hinder my future academic endeavour.
