Petition Letter

Petition Letter: June 16, 2014
Dear Associate Dean,

My name is Giordano Manuel and I am a second year economics major. I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from Queen's for a minimum of one year. When I received an email from Queen's University asking me to withdraw, I was not shocked but I was truly saddened and felt like I have truly failed my family; specifically my parents.

My entire life my parents have been pressuring me to do well so that I can meet the requirements to enroll in a top university. I thank them for what they have done and if it weren't for them I would not have gotten as far as I have so far. I have an unimaginable amount of respect towards them for that. The only problem is once I enrolled in to Queen's university, they were not satisfied with my faculty. Since they were paying for my education (and I am truly grateful for them doing so), they wanted to pick my major. Therefore they picked economics, one of the more difficult art majors. It is evident that I struggled first year and I did not do much better in my second. I was never any good at math but I did not expect to do this poorly and I'm ashamed to say I have failed my parents and the Queen's University's expectations of a university student.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: My passion has always been geography. Ever since I was a kid I would spend hours studying the earth and I would never go anywhere without my atlas. After a long and emotional conversation with my family, my parents and I came to a conclusion. If you decide to wave my requirement to withdraw, I will begin the upcoming fall-term by enrolling in to introductory to geography courses and following my passion for geography. I have also been working very hard this summer because I will be paying for my own tuition coming term. I have decided to take full responsibility of my education and will do everything it takes in order to be a successful Queen's University graduate. It would break my heart if I had to withdraw from such an amazing school and if you wave my requirement to withdraw, I will do everything in my power to prove that I am capable of being academically successful and I will not fail If I am given the opportunity to remain at Queen's University, I will go above and beyond to be successful and I will seek the help needed in order to do well in the upcoming year.

Thank you for taking the time to read my appeal and I hope that this is not the end of my journey at Queen's University.
