Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (studies)
I would like to appeal the requirement to withdraw from studies for one year. In September, My father lost his job and things got very tight for my family. I got a part time job in order to help my family, but caused conflicts with my studies. I was unable to study for my math 121 tests as I did not have enough time. It was very difficult to review for exams as I did not have much time off during that period. I became very stressed having to deal with a job and a heavy work load. These family issues kept getting worse and worse as it took a while for my father to find employment. My mother was also not working so there was no income and I took many shifts in order to help my family. As a result I did poorly on my December exams. In the end of February, my father got another job and things got better. I was able to take time off and begin to focus on my studies again, but I was unable to recover from all the work I had missed from September-February. This was a very stressful period in my life and it became very difficult to balance everything going on in my life. Now that my father has a very stable job, I will be able to succeed in my academics this year.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: This year I focused on Sciences and I would like to continue with some sciences, but also exploring other options. I would like to major in Chemistry and minor in Health. I would also like to explore creative writing as I am very interested in it. I will retake some classes such as Chem 112 and Math 121, but I would like to also take some health classes such as health 101 and health 230. I will also be taking a lighter course load, so I do not become overwhelmed by my classes. Now that my father is employed, I will not seek a part time job, meaning that all my attention will be focused on my academics. I will also meet with an advisor every week in order to keep me on tract and to keep up my motivation. I will also take advantage of the resources on campus, such as the writing centre and I will consult with a learning strategies advisor. I know that I am a good student, but I had a rough year. I would like a second chance to prove to Queen's that they made the right choice in accepting me to the Faculty of Arts and Science.
