Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies)
I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I must withdraw for one year. In September my father lost his job and things got very tight. I got a part time job in order to help my family. Having a part time job with a heavy workload of a first year science student meant less time for studying. I was unable to study for my Math 121 tests and my phys 117 midterms. I became very stressed with having to work and study, but my mother was also not working, so my family needed my help. I had to work during exam time and had less time to review for December exams, resulting in me doing very poorly on them. In the end of February, my father received a job offer, so I took time off work, as things got better. My stress level did go down and I was able to do well in some courses like health 102 and in my Biol 103 labs, but it was very difficult to catch up in all I had missed from September-February in Math 121, Chem112, and Phys117. Unfortunately, I did not succeed in my academics this past year at Queen's, but I believe that these family issues that I faced had a strong impact on my academic performance.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: The Focus of my studies this past year was sciences. I would like to major in Chemistry and perhaps minor in health. I would also like to explore creative writing. If I am grated my appeal, I would retake some courses such as Chem 112 and Math 121. I would also like to take Health 101 and Health 230. If I am able to pursue this academic plan, I will continue taking chemistry classes and health in my future years at Queens. I was very overwhelmed this year with my workload, so I would reduce it to a lighter one, so I can have more time to study and take care of myself. Now that my father is at a steady job, I will not seek Part time employment meaning that I will have more time to focus on my academics. I will also take advantage of the resources on campus, such as the writing centre and I will consult with a learning strategies advisor. I will also have weekly meetings to ensure that I am on track. This past year was very difficult for me, but I would like a second chance to prove to Queen's that they were right in accepting me to the Faculty of Arts and Science.
