Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Deans Office,
My name is Nestor Grandal and I have recently completed my first year at Queen's. I am writing this appeal to try and drop several of my courses late. These courses include: CHEM 112, PHYS 117, ANAT 215 and HLTH 101.
I came to Queen's excited at the chance to pursue a life science major. Hence, I took all the science courses I could, including a second year anatomy course (ANAT 215/216) that I was able to take using my previously earned IB biology credit. However, over the course of the two semesters my concentration, focus, and mood were affected by my depression/anxiety. I was diagnosed in early January, before coming to Queen's, and have been struggling to perform up to my abilities. I wasn't able to complete all of the assignments and received failing grades in these courses as a result of these hindering circumstances. I have attached two doctor's notes outlining the details of my illness.
I am still determined to try and get into the life science program in my third year. To achieve this, I am re-taking HLTH 101 through the offered online summer course. I also plan on re-taking CHEM 112, PHYS 117, and possibly ANAT 215/216 in the coming school year.
Another issue I would like to raise is regarding OSAP funding. The financial aid that I receive from OSAP is essential for my attending university, however I¿¿m not sure how this appeal decision would affect my funding options.
Thank you for your consideration,
Nestor A. Grandal
