Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Associate Dean,
I am appealing my final grade in Economics 351 as I finished with a B- and received a 59 on the final exam. I would like to appeal the grade on my final exam as well as the calculation of my final grade once the exam is re-graded.
I found this course quite challenging and on the first midterm I got a 59. I worked extremely hard and it paid off because on the second midterm I received an 88. I consistently did very well on all my assignments and attended every lecture except for one because I had a doctor's appointment. I usually have a good idea of how I performed on exams after I've written them and after my Econ 351 final I felt alright, in fact I felt pretty good about it. Furthermore, I am completing my economics degree in 3 years rather than the suggested 4 as I started a year late. I understand this is a choice I have made and not forced into. This being said, I believe my willingness to make personal sacrifices during the academic year and summers, in order to complete my undergrad in 4 years despite the time crunch is reflective of my perseverance and ability to work hard when needed.
Essentially I feel as though I deserved a higher grade than a 59 on my final and find it hard to believe I received a mark on the final exam that was the exact same to that of my first midterm when I had been making so much positive progress throughout the semester.
My future plan is to go to law school and for this reason I will strive for the highest marks that I can. I am working in a law firm this summer doing paralegal work and the more exposure I have to the practice of law the more passionate and driven I feel to pursue it.
I would ask that my exam be reviewed for marking and my final grade be recalculated in this course. I would appreciate it tremendously.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you at your convenience.
Best,
Meagan Norris
