Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing to waive the 21-day appeal deadline for me appeal application. The circumstances of this late appeal are a mixture of being uninformed, being distracted by other events going on in my life, and an unwillingness to think about one of the worst years in my life.
By the end of my 2014-2015 semester I was not emotionally well so I made the decision to take a year off from Queens to try and stabilize myself and figure out my plans for the future. Unfortunately due to this decision I was not aware of my ability to request appeals for failed grades and this continued until I decided to return to my studies and Queens in February when I decided to take online schooling and was told about the appeal process. Unfortunately it was during this time I had to make the decision on whether or not to undergo an important operation on my jaw that would have had a very large impact on my life. I also had to adjust to using a new trache during this time so this coupled with my studies made me unable to focus on writing my appeal letter. Another aspect of me not writing this appeal on time was my hesitation on recalling a year where I was facing depression and nothing seemed to go my way. It was for these reasons that I was unable to submit the appeal before the 21-day deadline.
