Appealing credit standing in CISC 471 and BIOL334

Dear Dr. Johanne Bénard

I am writing this letter to ask for appealing credit standing in CISC 471 (Computational Biology) and BIOL334(Comparative Biochemistry), held within the winter semester of the 2016 academic year.

Due to special circumstances, I have been unable to drop this courses on time and I was very disappointed and upset when I saw the grade of these two courses.

I¿¿m in fourth year computing and I was planning to graduate this year. Unfortunately, because of some technical problems it took too long for me to process the data I need for my undergrad project, I was instructed to drop the course and because of this I have to prolong my graduation. And I had a relapse of depression since then.

I have a serious mental health condition that has required prescription medications and I have been taking sertraline for years. Because I was not in good shape in the second half of the term, I started seeing doctor Susan Ngo of the Student Wellness Services. She increased my dose and I was hoping I could do better in the last few tests and final exams.

I did well on my first BIOL 334 midterm and the online quiz, but I got less than 40 in the final exam. Fortunately, I passed the course but I think I could get a better grade if I wasn¿¿t suffering from anxiety. As for CISC 471, I did fine in the first test, but I failed last test and barely passed the final exam. I studied really hard for the test and exam but I could not think straight or concentrate on anything at that time period.
If my appeal was granted, this low grade will not affect my cumulative GPA and I still need to complete four required courses to complete my degree.
PS. I will contact my psychiatrist Dr. Susan Ngo to provide more supporting documents.
