Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean (Studies),

I hope you are well. I am writing this letter appealing to drop two of my courses, CISC 221 and CISC 223, which I took in the recent winter term (Winter 2016).

I have been struggling with my health for quite a while now as my condition tends to vary as treatment has progressed over time. It has disrupted my academic progress and performance in this term and perhaps a few others. My condition entails certain treatment, such as focused therapy and/or medication, which has the tendency to change at the behest of the healthcare professional that I sought for help and have been under the care of. Due to my treatment and the nature of my illness, my symptoms tend to fluctuate and can often prove debilitating. This proves to be detrimental to my academic performance as it adversely affects my cognitive abilities and physical health, rendering me unable to function properly and even perform simple tasks such as travelling, memorizing, eating properly, etc. Therefore, it proved increasingly more difficult for me to keep up with my courses this term, and I was unable to attend some tests/exams as a result of my illness. As such, I was generally unable to perform well, particularly in the aforementioned courses that I am appealing to drop, and my grades were negatively affected.

In the future, I hope to achieve better health as I continue to seek proper treatment and consult with healthcare professionals on a more frequent basis. Although my condition has had a negative effect on my life, I aim to overcome the obstacles, become a better student and person, and keep moving forward to ensure that I do well both in my academic career and outside of it. Thank you for your time and I hope you have a wonderful day.
