Petition Letter: I am requesting to drop Film 260. This is my first online course (with Queen¿¿s) as it is my first year at Queen¿¿s I am not entirely familiar with how the moodle site works. In my past experience with the online courses (not affiliated with Queen¿¿s) the student was able to hand in assignments any time within the allotted period and I was unaware that the assignments in this course had specific due dates. Unfortunately, due to prior responsibilities I began the course a week behind and therefore missed the first assignment. Obviously I was very upset to discover my mistake. Upon emailing Professor Matrix, she was clear that as per the course guidelines; their would be no available extensions for the assignment.
However the purpose of this appeal is because of the issue I encounter with my second assignment. This assignment was to make a digital flip book which I happily completed and attempted to submit several times (3 times to be exact). Due to my in inexperience I felt that it had embedded properly on my last attempt. In the course guidelines it states that to receive a grade for this assignment you must complete and embed this by Friday June 3rd. The syllabus for the course did not explain how to properly embed this assignment and due to this I was unable to hand in the assignment in a proper manner. I contacted Professor Matrix on Friday June 3rd and then again within the grace period of Sunday June 5th requesting her to confirm that I had properly submitted the assignment. Professor Matrix replied to me on Monday June 6th (after the due date) saying that it was not submitted properly. I was very upset and frustrated I hoped that Professor Matrix would understand that I had completed the assignment as I had also emailed her the embedded link, but due to the issue with the embedding I was not allowed to try to resubmit the assignment. In Professor Matrix¿¿s words ¿¿No, there is no other way to submit the work to me after the deadline.¿
I completely understand that Professor Matrix is very busy, I also take responsibility for not fully educating myself on the structure of Queen¿¿s online courses. However at this point there is no way I can successfully complete this course, so I am asking to drop Film 260 without academic penalty.
