Petition Letter

Petition Letter: 1) This is the first time I have been in a foreign country by myself. I have very few relatives currently living in Canada. Acclimatising to the customs of the country and its people was a task I had to struggle with by my own for the past two years. Albeit, my few friends have been helping me greatly, essentially becoming a second family to me in many regards.
2) Another culture shock was the university environment. Back in Malaysia, young adults who were hoping to enter a tertiary education are offered very little guidance and advice as to what programs are available and discovering what they may enjoy and be good at. Many of my friends were simply shepherded into the fields they are now pursuing and made to excel in; whether they agree with it or not. My parents on the other hand, wanted me to find my own niche and that is what I have been attempting; hence the odd mixture of courses taken within the span of four semesters.
3) I had very supportive friends, TAs, and professors in GRMN 101 and PHIL 111 in the Fall 2014 semester. In both, they went above and beyond to aid me in my studies within that course and for that, I am very grateful. Needless to say, those are the only courses I have with a grade even worth mentioning about. The study culture in Malaysia is very different and I¿¿ve been trying so hard to change my old ways ¿¿ there is no critical thinking or freedom of expression, essay writings are simply a regurgitation of facts one is taught to memorise countless times, and creativity is seldom encouraged; usually frowned upon.
4) Being removed from the program for one year is, in a way, me leaving university for good. My Visa constrains my ability to apply for any form of work in Canada for the meantime. I will have to fly home. Financing another flight besides the transferring of my luggage and such back to Canada a second time would be another severe strain on my parent¿¿s financial burden.
5) However, (4) also features another problem. I have already signed the lease for the house I am renting for another full year. Finding a replacement for a house¿¿s position in such short notice has proven fruitless in the past on an unrelated case. I would rather not worry or greatly inconvenience my housemates like that. I have attached a couple of pictures of the signed agreement.
6) Lastly, I am still recovering from three post-suicide attempts brought on by severe anxiety and depression. I was being irrationally fearful, and was dreading the withdrawal letter months before the end of the semester (Winter 2016) after a very vivid nightmare. I only failed my attempts because one of my housemates decided to stay with me here in Kingston during the summer. Seeing the actual physical manifestation did little to comfort me, and I am desperately trying to prevent myself from doing anything stupid despite this circumstance. I would have sent this off sooner, had I been in a better mental and emotional state.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I have sought psychiatric help regarding my depression and anxiety issues; even a career counsellor back in the summer of 2015. I have also been very dearly trying to adapt myself to the proper studying habits of a university environment, but I do truly need additional external help doing so.
