Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
My name is Corinna Ostiguy and I am a third year student (10109407) at Queens currently studying abroad in Heidelberg, Germany. I am nearing completion of my Ontario-Baden-Würrtemberg Exchange (OBW) and am writing to appeal to extend my studies here for another year, i.e. the remainder of my degree. I have been presented with the opportunity to do so and have the support of both my faculty (Dr. Pugh and Dr. Maliszewska) at Queens and pertinent faculties here in Heidelberg.
I have found my studies here have greatly propelled me towards academic success, and I truly feel that and extension of my stay is in my best academic interest. Not only have my academic pursuits flourished due to this undertaking but I have been able to exercise my new skills in an applied setting. The opportunities I have been presented with here would not be afforded to me in Canada. Following the completion of my Bachelors Degree I intend to pursue a Masters Degree here in Heidelberg. I truly feel that an extension of my stay would aid in this transition. While the courses I have taken at Queens have provided me with a solid foundation, here, I have been able to take that foundation and build upon it. My German skills have vastly improved as a result of the courses I have undertaken here, in so much as that I have found myself in a position where I am able to work and function as an integrated member of society.
As the focus of my studies has gradually shifted towards the german language and its applications, I have discovered the courses available to me here would greatly embellish on this pursuit. For example the Angewandte Phonetik course I have taken here has propelled my pronunciation abilities to a new level, which will be of great help if I pursue a Masters in Translation and Interpretation. They also offer here higher level German grammar and writing courses, and a wide range of Linguistics seminars. I have found that through studying German in Heidelberg I have a acquired an appreciation for the fundamental relevance of linguistics in the study of modern languages.
Remaining in Germany would give me an unparalleled ability to represent Queens not only as a student but in the future, as a graduate. I appreciate your consideration in this matter.
Regards,
Corinna Ostiguy

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: After careful consideration on the part of the Languages Literatures and Cultures Department (LLCU) we have come up with an academic plan that will allow me to continue my studies here in Heidelberg and still obtain my degree from Queens. The plan is outlined as follows:
1. I will have to drop the minor in GMST, and change my degree from MJM to MAJ.
2. In 2016-17 I will need, in order to fulfil the requirements of the Major in Linguistics, to take the course in Semantics of which I have informed the department.
3. In 2016-17 I will have to take at least one elective course (3.0 units) as a Distance course from Queen's.
4. In 2016-17 I will continue to take any courses made available to and required of me here in Heidelberg.
If you require a more detailed explanation of my academic plan I am more than happy to oblige.
Regards,
Corinna Ostiguy
