Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whomever it may concern,

I am writing today to request an Academic Appeal regarding dropping a course after the academic deadline. The course in question is ENGL 100 for the Summer 2016 term.

I submit this appeal upon the realization that I will be unable to successfully complete this course and attain a decent grade. The reason is that I have recently been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Upon receiving medication to help treat these disorders, I surmised that I would be fully able to take and succeed in a summer course. Instead, I found that when focusing on the course and trying to complete assignments, my symptoms were exacerbated and I found it extremely difficult to work on the course without being faced with anxious episodes. Furthermore, my time has been riddled with depressive episodes, essentially preventing me from completing any kind of task.

I have waited so long to submit this appeal as I hoped I would have some kind of breakthrough and would be able to finish the course content and write the final exam. As the final approaches, I have realized that there is no way in which I will be able to finish reading the course material, let alone write the final exam.

I do wish to take this course again though, as I have enjoyed the content I have been able to get through. Thus, my request is to drop this course and upon seeking further treatment (ie: therapy), I will be able to take ENGL 100 again in the Fall 2016/Winter 2017 terms.
