Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Benard,
My name is Christopher Thomas, I am appealing to drop FILM 140.
I had missed the deadline to drop the course by two days attempting to drop on July 31st as opposed to July 29th. The reason I wish to drop this course was I had over-committed myself this summer. I serve as the General Secretary for my church youth group. We had planned our National Conference this past weekend from July 28- 31 in Philadelphia. I held the unrealistic expectation that I would be able to balance the planning of this conference, which took place almost daily in July, with the course work of FILM 140 and my other summer course ASTR 101. I was adamant on taking these courses in order to increase my GPA and reach a good level of Academic standing. I was able to complete the readings for the course, but was not able to complete assignments. Due to my own carelessness my hope to raise my academic standing had quickly turned against me. By the time I came to this realization I had missed the deadline.
This has served very much so as a reality check of my abilities and work habits. I understand very much, that over-committing myself does not serve as an extenuating circumstance and these are very much in my control. With that understanding, I do believe I will be far more conscientious with my abilities. I have spoken to the president of our youth group on taking on less responsibility to myself and delegating work to my Joint Secretaries instead. I also understand now that if I have any doubts within myself on my ability to complete a course it is best not to take it. I am allowed to take time to finish my degree and I should not feel rushed and do a bad job. The quality of my learning should be higher than the speed in which I do it.
To conclude, I hope that this appeal to drop FILM 140 is approved. I had learned many lessons this month, regarding my abilities, habits, and design thinking itself. The lessons I have learned will without a doubt help me to become a better quality student. Thank you for reading my appeal.
