Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean (Studies):
Hello my name is Robert Bogle and I am writing this to waive the appeal deadline. I am doing so I may appeal my grades in Phys 206 and Phys 216 which I received in my second year and have the grades dropped. I will be detailing the main events and circumstances which have left me unable to work on appealing these grades until this summer.
When these grades were given to me I found out shortly after that I would have to go through the appeal process in order to remain a Queen's student. During the summer fallowing my second year I wrote my appeal and it was accepted. Fallowing that process I was solely focused on insuring that my performance matched the promises I made during the appeal process and that I could overcome the issues holding me back. With my focus solely on my studies I did not consider addressing grade changes until I could prove that I was an improved student. My plan fallowing a strong third year was to appeal the grades and use the strong third year grades to prove that I could be a successful student in another department and have the grades dropped. This would allow me to be more competitive when applying for masters and internship opportunities through Queen's and other universities. Fallowing my third year, I found out that the summer job I have held down since high school was in jeopardy because of problems the federal government was having doing security clearances do to technical issues with there process. I work as a labourer on the Kingston military base in the structure shop which has allowed me to pay for my schooling with help from my parents. With this necessary income potentially at risk I had to focus solely on other possible summer job opportunities late in most businesses summer hiring cycle. This left me to search for a new job until the issue with getting security clearances was solved and I was allowed to return to my regular job in mid-June. Even back at my regular job I had a major issue with my pay. This issue had me spending most of my spare time working with my boss to get a wage which matched my work performance and the number of years I've spent working for Canadian Forces Base Kingston. This issue was eventually resolved a few days before the start of Queen's football training camp. During my fourth year my main focus was having another strong academic showing. I felt that this would help make my arguments for why I believe the grades should be dropped stronger. Which brings me to this summer where I have spent the summer working on both appeal letters, and dealing with our government's new payment system phoenix. As you may know the system has caused problems for students employed by the government. It has caused an issue where students are improperly paid or not paid at all. I fall in to the improperly paid category to the tune of being shorted more than 3000. This meant I was splitting time between this, attempting to write these appeals, working a full time job and summer football training. I feel that I have a very strong argument for why this grade should be dropped and I feel that it is worth waving the appeal deadline so I may plead my case.
