Dear Department of Arts and Science Online at Queen¿¿s University,

I thank you in advance for your time. Please see below the extenuating circumstances around my needing to appeal the deadline to enroll in DEVS 100 for Fall-Winter 2016-17.

Summer 2016 has been pivotal for my personal and professional growth. My current living situation has changed; during the summer months, I courageously left my relationship with my live-in boyfriend and have been living independently for two months now. In August, I was presented the rare opportunity to move to Toronto and take on an advanced position with a public relations firm which would ultimately leave very little time for other priorities. As you will note, several larger decisions needed to be made in September which stunted my ability to confirm enrollment at Queen¿¿s University before the deadline. I¿¿ve since triumphed from the breakup, declined the job offer, declined the move across the country and am committed to staying in my current full-time role while having the flexibility at work to finish my degree at Queen¿¿s.

I recognize the above circumstances are not generally accepted for an appeal, however; as someone who values continuing education and respects the institution of Queen¿¿s University, I am committed to balancing my full-time workload in order to succeed in DEVS 100 as my introductory course at your school. I do wish you¿¿ll have me.

I look forward to your decision.

Warmest regards,

Nancy Ruth Deen

Dear Department of Arts and Science Online at Queen¿¿s University,

Please see below for my go-forward plan to succeed in DEVS 100 for Fall-Winter 2016-17.

GO-FORWARD PLAN FOR SUCCESS

I realize, should I be granted the appeal, that I will need to catch up on four to five missed weeks of study.

My current work position allows me to have a very flexible work schedule; I am able to work from home, make my own work hours, and the owner of my company is very supportive of my continuing education. If needed, I can provide documentation which outlines her approval of my decision to take DEVS 100.

I consider myself very good at time management. I see the upcoming evaluation is 20 participation and then the mid-term exam follows; as someone who writes a lot for work on several projects weekly and is required to be a thorough and quick producer of material, I believe I will be able to generate the writing required for the course with flying colours, and with more condensed time frames.

In terms of previous academic performance, I graduated with a 3.6 GPA from my previous studies at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in 2013 while working more hours than recommended for a full-time student, and still found time for additional priorities. At Simon Fraser University, I took an intensive PR program to refine my writing skills and ability to write concisely, which will contribute to my success in DEVS 100.

I am ready to thrive in DEVS 100. I have the proven skills, the flexible work schedule, the academic background and the drive to flourish in this course.

I look forward to your decision.

Warmest regards,

Nancy Ruth Deen
