To Associate Dean of Studies:

I am petitioning for an extension in enrollment for the Fall semester 2016 due to technical issues. I entered as a distance studies student for the Summer 2016 semester, distance studies was a perfect match for me as I was working a full time job in Toronto.

Early September I was trying to pay my Summer tuition fees however SOLUS was not allowing me to pay via credit card due to technical issues. I had contacted several departments such as: continuing distance studies, registrars and fees officials in regards to this issue. According to the system, as I was a previous Queens student in 2011, when I placed my return to studies form my plan remained under that plan. As my SOLUS does not recognize me as distance student the credit card option does not populate on my screen. As I prepared funds via credit card it took me a week to gather the funds via banking to pay off the sanction block on my SOLUS account. Due to the three to four business day delays, my SOLUS account is now cleared however the deadline has passed for me to add courses.

My efforts of making the enrollment deadline include:
¿¿ Contacting the Continuing Distance Education Official
¿¿ Contacting the Registrars Office

You will be able to verify my attempts in escalating the issue by tracking the administration logging into my SOLUS account. I have attached a screen shot of my SOLUS homepage indicating that there is no portal for a credit card payment. Also included in my supporting documents is a screen shot of my Account Activity on SOLUS, as you can see I attempted to pay for my tuition via credit card prior to the enrollment date however only 128.17 was charged. When I reloaded the page to enter the full amount, the portal disappeared as per my current screen shot. Lastly, I have attached my return to studies form indicating that my reentry indicated distance education.

I would appreciate it if the Faculty of Arts and Science would allow me to extend my deadline in regards to adding courses for the current Fall/Winter semester even though I missed the withdrawal deadline.

Thank you for your consideration,

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I enrolled into the Continuing Distance Studies program, as I knew it would be a great opportunity to receive a quality education and pursue a career in Finance.

As I started my distance studies journey in Summer 2016, I was excited to be apart of the Queens learning experience again. However, I found a trend where my work and school deadlines met at very similar dates. Through out the semester I was achieving good grades however closer to the end of the semester I was unable to attend my finals due to deadlines at work.

After careful consideration, I had decided to move to England with my partner and pursue a full time education with Queens via distance education. With this decision, I will have less of a workload, which enables me to prfioritize my time purely on studies while also having my partner support me financially for my tuition.

Through out the years it has been a constant battle being able to balance work and education as I am a sole breadwinner to my education, however I have realized with this help I will be able to put my full concentration in my studies and achieve the degree that I always wanted to obtain.

In my first distance education semester, I found a great connection with English 100, and I would like to pursue my degree in it. If I am able to extend my deadline, I will retake the course while completing electives that are required for graduation.

Thank you for your consideration,
Januja Debalathas
