Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing this appeal as I am asking to change, or add a course after the drop date. I had approached the arts and science undergraduate student services to seek guidance regarding the fact I was having difficulty understanding and learning from my TA. I had tried to solve the problem by changing my tutorial time but unfortunately, all of the other times were not possible with my current timetable as many of my classes are only offered once. I have a documented learning disability from my high school, that makes it very difficult for me to understand people who speak with an accent. This is an aspect of my learning disability that is a problem that I have always had and one that required me to move classes while attending high school, as I was also unable to understand the teacher and retain the knowledge of what was being taught. After approaching the arts and science student center, I was advised to give my TA a chance as I may find it will work out. In doing so, I did not realize that this would leave me to be past the drop or change date. Additionally, due to a backlog in the student services, I am still waiting on approval and official documentation of my learning disability and what my accommodations will be. Under the advisement of Chair of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Knight- I have begun to attend the philosophy class (111-001). In conjunction, have the support from both Dr.Knight and Dr. Sismondo¿¿s- who teaches the course. I have a meeting with the professor to make the transition as smooth as possible and to ensure that I am up to speed as soon as possible. I talked briefly to Dr. Sismondo¿¿s , and we discussed using the knowledge I learned in my other philosophy class and applying it to my new philosophy class as a marking scheme. Overall I understand that this is a change and one that is not taken lightly and am willing to make up the work I need to.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: I will be utilizing the PROF in office time to answer any questions I have and gain clarification. Additionally, I will also be utilizing the other TA¿¿s office hours.
