Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I am appealing past the due date of September 23rd for financial reimbursement of three dropped classes, GNDS 212, GNDS311, and PSYCH 235A (all from Fall, 2016).
I missed the due date due to extenuating circumstance beyond my control. Past trauma prevented me from being able to do the work for my classes and requires me to go home to take a semester off from school. I have been experiencing these difficulties since about two weeks before school started and the physical and emotional symptoms made it impossible to get any course work done or go to classes. When I came to understand that I wasn't able to take classes because of my mental health and that I needed to take a semester off, it was September 24th, the day after the deadline. I sought out help from KGH in emergency, the health services at Queens, counselling at Queens, as well academic advising to help me in making my difficult decision to take time off and how I can possibly receive reimbursement since it would be a significant financial loss for me. Counselling services has been helping me with providing help in the appeal process to support me. Academic advising has helped me to better understand my options so that I do not have to leave behind Queen's completely to go and get the help that I need through switching to a general degree.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: My plan is to switch from an honours degree to a general degree so that I can finish my degree from my hometown where I have the supports I need to cope with past trauma on a regular basis. The general degree will also be much less stressful and a far more achievable goal for who I am, what i've been through, and what I want to do in the future. If the appeal is granted, I can use the money from the financial reimbursement to help pay for classes next semester and use it towards finishing my degree.
