Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Johanne Benard,
I am appealing to enroll in COGS 100 (Fall-Winter 2016-2017), SOCY 122(Fall-Winter 2016-2017), and PSYC 100A (Fall-Winter 2016-2017)
My current courses consist of subject areas such as physics, calculus and chemistry, all courses that set myself on a path to peruse life science in the future. Although I am doing well in these courses, I have come to realize that this particular area of study is not indented for me. Knowing this information at an earlier due date would have resulted in adding the courses before the deadline. However, I remained unsure weather or not adding these courses would bring me the academic satisfaction that I am looking for. I have sat in on a few of the lectures that I have listed above to see if this type of education is geared more towards my learning. Ultimately, I have discovered that I thoroughly enjoy the subjects that I am appealing to enroll in. Coming from a high school background of strictly math and science courses I was not exposed to many options therefore acted with a very narrow mindset when applying for university. Now that I have been introduced to the idea of different learning styles and subjects, I understand that strictly math and science based courses is not what I would like to peruse.
Now that I am sure of my decision I am prepared for the work that is to come in regards to catching up on missed material. For example, I attended a Cognitive science lecture and received the lecture slides I have missed as well as the outlined readings and assignments from a fellow peer. I am prepared to do this in all my classes as I await the status on my appeal. Moreover, I know many peers in the psychology class that are prepared to allow me to use their notes to catch up. They have also expressed interest in forming a small study group in order to assist me with understanding the concepts I have already missed. Lastly, I have also attended the sociology lecture and received assistance from a peer as well as the professor directly. I firmly believe that I will not only be able to catch up in these courses but also perform with a great deal of academic success. Thank you for taking the time to review and consider this appeal.
