Petition Letter: Dear Appeals Board representatives,
I am writing to you to request to drop PSYC 271 from my Fall term 2016 course list. I took PSYC 271 in Fall term 2015 and received a CR appeal grade after consideration on October 18th, 2016. The appeal number for this is 2686. My original plan was to take PSYC 271 again should the appeal not be granted, however, I was doing very well at that point and was considering continuing with course even if it was approved. On October 12th, a few days before receiving my appeal, I took a midterm for PSYC 271 but was worried about the grade. We still had not received our grades for this midterm by November 1st, so I contacted Amanda Maracle, who was leading the course to see if I could see my grade before the November 4th drop day. She said she would try to get it but did not get back in touch with me until the following week to say that she had no access to our grades which the teacher's assistants were marking. I did not receive my grade of C- for that midterm until November 15th.
I regrettably did not know that to drop a course after the deadline meant submitting an appeal. I thought it meant getting no refund and the course appearing on your transcript as dropped, both of which I accepted.
Had I known my midterm grade before November 4th, I would have dropped the course. I am currently taking six courses to make up for redoing this one. I have been receiving mostly A grades in my courses, but it is strained. I still have the same condition, essential tremors, as I had last year and for which was the basis of my appeal. I am currently treating it, and it is improving. However, it has been a difficult adjustment and writing by hand is difficult. I applied to have a QSAS appointment in September, but it was scheduled for October 31st. I will include my accommodation letter they gave for PSYC 271 where they approved me for using a computer for tests and Scantron exemption. Both of these I did not have when I completed my midterm on October 12th.
Please consider this appeal. I am terribly sorry for missing the deadline for dropping a course. I fear having to repeat this course for the second time. Please let me know if you require proof of dates that I mentioned above. I compiled a document with them but was unable to load them in document position 3.
Thank you for your consideration,
Lyndsay Duffin
