Petition Letter: Dear Arts and Science Associate Dean Studies,
I am writing you requesting an Appeal for a late drop. I sustained my second concussion in under eight months back on April 2, 2016, prior to the winter exam period. In spring, I obtained Aegrotat standing in two of my courses and then in September I appealed for an extension of an incomplete grade to ensure I had more time to complete the remaining three exams. Over the past seven months I have had a very challenging recovery. Following a number of setbacks I was nearly healed, but then on October 29th I was accidentally struck in the head and many symptoms returned. Four days later (November 3) I was forced to return home to Toronto where I began recuperating and resting. On November 21, after being in Toronto for three weeks, i returned back to Kingston
I began the Fall 2016 term taking four classes, but on November 4th , following my most recent setback, I choose to drop an additional course to lighten my workload. I wanted to wait and see if I would rebound quickly so I choose against immediately dropping another course. However, I soon realized it would be extremely challenging to catch up in a very theoretical and content heavy course such as ECON 351. If I were able to take this course next year, I would have a better opportunity to do well, without the need to catch up on content.
During my time back home I saw a chiropractor that specializing in concussions, in addition to my family doctor and a neurologist. They were all helpful in formulating a roadmap for my recovering and all strongly encouraged accommodations. The note I attached was composed on November 3rd by my family doctor, Dr. Ramprasad.
Thank you very much for your understanding and I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Blake Mitchell Wilson
