Petition Letter

Petition Letter: On November 4th/16, I along with my peers, wrote Professor Ross's second midterm for ENCH 212. After studying extensively for this midterm due to a poor overall average on our first midterm, I was feeling confident about the level of work I submitted. Unfortunately, a week after the midterm, I received an email from professor Ross outlining her investigation into possible departure from academic integrity. The other party in question happened to not only be one of my very good friends but also one of my roommates in the exact same program as I. As a result, we study and work on numerous courses and projects together, sometimes using very similar approaches. After I put forward evidence showing these similarities in our studying, professor Ross had ruled that there was a breach in academic integrity on my behalf, with the out come being a 0/51 on the written short answer part of the examination. I wish to formally appeal this grading decision on the basis that no departure from academic integrity was made on mine or someone else's behalf, and the grade given by professor Ross unfairly demonstrates my level of knowledge in the course. With many other circumstances happening in my personal and schooling life, this decision handed out has been particularly hard to swallow. After I had received the initial notice of investigation, I booked appointments with the PSC, SWS and academic grievance Center. I was already familiar with these resources due to, as mentioned above, serious personal difficulties. Additionally, my girlfriend (who accompanied me to my meeting with professor Ross) works at the PSC, and was brought along for emotional support. Based on evidence that professor Ross has officially put forward, I would like to appeal the decision and grading my the second midterm for class ENCH 212.

Sincerely,

Parker quast
