Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean,

I am appealing to drop the course BIOL 102 after the academic deadline. I have dropped all of my other courses without a problem, however with BIOL 102 being my only one-term course along with BIOL 103 I have missed the deadline.

The reason being is that I am withdrawing this year due to the fact that I have not performed to my own standards, however I am taking summer courses and returning in the 2017-2018 academic year. I have not had any extenuating circumstances that affected my studies, however the following has occurred.

I have lived in Canada since the age of six, however during my last three year of high school my family and I have been living in Kyrgyzstan because of financial issues.I have always performed well academically and I am a Principal's Scholarship recipient, however adjusting to life in Canada especially in university has proven to be a small culture shock to me as I was struggling to keep my social and academic life in balance. During the semester I had to drop 2 of my math courses as I found catching up in five courses would be extremely overwhelming, however by the time I had decided to withdraw from this year completely, I was late to drop my only one semester course, BIOL 102. I hope you can appreciate my situation and allow me to drop the course.

Regardless of the decision that will be made, I will be coming back next year with a more focused mindset and a lighter course load because of the summer courses I am taking. I have already signed a house lease with my friends, and I am determined to succeed in the next four years.

Sincerely,
Zhanybek Orozaliev
