Petition Letter: I am requesting to appeal to you to extend the deadline of incomplete work for PSYC399. I took the course in the Winter Semester of the 2015-2016 academic year. I had both medical and psychological issues at the time that can be corroborated with both my accommodations, Student Wellness Services, and my request to the Professor. I was in Kingston over the summer taking care of my medical issues, and I contacted my Professor, Randall Flanagan, three times with no response. I would like to hand in my papers and I need some materials that were removed from Moodle due to the switch to OnQ. The two papers that have to be finished, can be done over the Winter break as I will be in Kingston to complete my work and to continue with treatment. Furthermore, improvement in my condition has only happened in the past two months through the support of Nurse Kelley Mannen and Dr. Suzanne Billing at Student Wellness Services. Medical records should reflect that I have seen Dr. Billing since February 2016, and previous I was seeing Dr. Campbell, also at Student Wellness Services. Over the past year I have been on different medications as well as increased the dosage of others which have effects on my academic performance, in particular this summer was a time of unrest and I was taken to KGH Emergency in both February and August. I will begin an out-patient program at Providence Care in January. I would like to be accountable for both my academics and my health. I have an interest in the course at would like to complete it, not just for a grade but because I enjoy the content and the research aspect of the course, I believe Dr. Flanagan knows this too from my oral presentation, the other major assignment for the class. If I could have more time I believe that I can complete the course to the extent that it would be an accurate reflection of my ability. I would like to pursue graduate studies and I believe this course is an asset to my academic understanding of Psychology and writing analytical peer reviewed papers.
Continually, I would like to drop the course STAT263, you can also contact Charles Molson, who was aware of the issues I was going through over the summer. To this end, Jill Atkinson at the Undergraduate Psychology Department, granted my request to retake PSYC202 again. I took STAT263 to improve my first PSYC202 grade however the extenuating circumstance of my health prevented me from doing well again, because there was no improvement and the circumstances of my health over the summer worsened. I am now in PSYC202 again and doing well, and that grade will replace my first one, therefore I believe that the STAT263 failing grade is not an accurate reflection of my academic potential and I am proving that in retaking the PSYC202 statistics course. It has no bearing on my degree plan as well. If you would like any additional information regarding either of these requests I would be happy to provide it. I am also registered with Disability Services.
Sincerely,
Dahlia Docrat
