Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear associate dean:
I am appealing to waive the one-term appeal deadline of summer term, which is 31 December.
I enrolled in 4 elective courses in 2016 summer term, which was very unwise, because I had not fully
recovered from the fall term exams and was later hospitalized because of some illness. I lost track of dates during that one and a half months and eventually failed to drop those courses before the deadline.
I was eligible to do my graduate project before I enrolled and failed those courses. I regret my
decision of enrolling in those courses as I did not really need the credits and it affected my GPA badly.
I did not appeal in the summer and planned to retake these electives in next summer which will extend my
graduation even longer. I knew it¿¿s a bad plan but I was terrified to appeal.
Then fall term started, I realized it would be very difficult to raise my GPA to be eligible to do the graduate project in this winter term because those four failures did a great damage on my cumulative GPA. I always wanted to appeal to drop those four courses but was overwhelmed by the course works and
could not gather up the courage to submit the appeal. After my psychiatrist Doctor Susan Ngo at the student wellness service left Kingston I went off medications and had no professions to consult.
After learning that the deadline was 31 December, I finally decided to appeal to drop those four courses but was later overwhelmed by the final exams. I was hoping that my fall term grades could raise the grade points dropped by that four failures. After the grades came out which did not drop or raise very much, I still need 0.1 more points to do the project.
I learnt a big lesson that I should not enroll in classes when I don¿¿t feel well and I regret my decision.
I talked to my project coordinator Professor David Lamb and he suggested me to give it a try to see if I can drop those courses in order to get in CISC499.
If my appeal was granted I will then submit my appeal to drop BCHM218,BIOL103,CHEM285 and WRIT125 holding in 2016 summer.
