Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean of Studies,
My name is Darcy Greenaway. I am a third year Economics student and I play on the Men¿¿s Hockey team. I am appealing to request a Credit Standing in two of my courses from the Fall Semester. These courses are CLST 102 and ECON 241 in which I received a C and C- respectively.
Last March I suffered a detached retina in my left eye. After a long summer of multiple surgeries I have experienced difficulties concentrating for extended periods of time which has affected my ability to study for examinations. Although I am continuing to experience progress this has not been an easy challenge because the adverse effects of my medical situation and how it affected my ability to perform well on examinations. As you can see from medical documentation, following surgery I had impaired learning capabilities which is evident in these two grades that do not accurate reflect my true potential. Fortunately for my health, these symptoms have decreased significantly and as time has progressed I have been getting better and better. Although my passion to succeed was present throughout the whole semester it was only within the last few weeks that my symptoms subsided enough for me to begin studying properly. As you know, only being able to study at one¿¿s true potential for a fraction of the semester poses a near impossible challenge for a student to achieve a grade that otherwise would clearly be attainable. For this reason, supported by medical documentation that indicates the aforementioned impairments, I am asking for Credit Standing.
My future plan is to continue at Queens as I truly believe that taking the proper steps in recovery in addition to continuing medical treatments will allow me to succeed again in my courses. I am on an athletic scholarship and have had financial concerns after receiving these grades as they have decreased my GPA.
Thank you in advance,
Darcy Greenaway
