Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello,
My name is Amanda Rego- Lynch. I was enrolled and taking PSYC 100 Principles of Psychology. 6.00
I was taking this course through Distant Studies.
In order to pass this course, you need to pass the final exam. I failed to pass the final exam. Otherwise I had decent marks going throughout this course.
In about November to December my five year old daughter name Serena began to get sick. She was showing signs of a normal urinary track infection. I took her to the doctor, he gave us a prescription and we went home. By January, I really began to have my school studies affected because my daughter was being sent home from school for soiling both her pants and the new set I would send to the school. This is the point where it became semi difficult to start to prepare for my final exam. All February we were in and out of the doctors. Ultra sounds, more prescriptions, more time at home. She would get fever's randomly and start puking.
Having her at home and sick was really hard to organize my notes and spend the time I needed to study. By the time I got her to bed at night, I would look over my notes but it would be later at night and I would already be exhausted from the day.
March and April were a lot more overnight visits to the hospital, a lot more tests, and more and more medication. This made studying for my final near impossible. I had to study mostly from a tablet and my notebook. It is really hard to study at a hospital and even worse at home with a very sick child.
In May we finally had enough, I took her down to the Sick Kid's hospital of Toronto. She was properly diagnosed with constipation (her bowel was 4 cm blocked at this point), overflow diarrhoea, Eczema and Vulvovaginitis.
Since then she is being treated and although the blockage is not completely gone, she is doing much better. She has returned to school without any further problem thus far. We also go for regular check up's every six weeks.
I would like to drop this course so that I could retake this course in Summer 17 if possible, or if Summer 17 is full then I propose that I can retake this course in Winter 17.
If I am granted this opportunity I will make sure to give this course my all and I will pass and be able to continue on to my BA through distance studies.
Thank You for your time and consideration.

Amendment to Appeal 2970
Relevant Petition: 2970
New Information: Hello,
My name is Amanda Rego- Lynch. I did not realize I needed to first ask to waive the 21 day or one term deadline.
I am asking to have this done now and the reason I could not submit this appeal sooner or by the proper deadline is because the earliest specialist appointment I could get for my daughter was September 21, 2016.
I did not want to apply for this appeal before that date, because I needed to see the status of my daughter's health concerns. If I would have made the appeal and then she was not better or she needed more care, it would have wasted the University's time as well as my own.
I also had an application into Birchview Dunes Elementary School ( My daughters school) for a teaching assistant, to help her use the bathroom properly during the day at school. While I was awaiting this application for a TA, I would go to the school everyday, at all breaks to make sure she used the toilet properly, wiped properly and applied the oil and Vaseline properly, so that she would not get the severe vulvovaginitis back.
This course and school is very important to me and my future. I did not want to submit an appeal if I could not commit myself 100.
I now have a TA in place at school, the specialist has given the okay to return to school as well as work.
I have the added bonus of my father who recently retired to be able to assist in the care of my daughter, in case any unforeseen health issues do arise. I did not have this extra assistance last time.
I would really appreciate you granting me to waive the 21 day or one term deadline, so that I can have my appeal reviewed by the Associate Dean and hopefully be granted my appeal to drop the course, so that I may retake this class.
Queens University and this course are very important to me and my future, and if given a second chance, I will make sure that I complete the course and fully dedicate my time to the school and my course.
Thank You for taking the time to review my request.
