Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: On the night of November 21st 2016 I was walking home and slipped on ice and hit my head hard against a stop sign. I went to the hospital on November 22nd 2016 because I was feeling concussion-like symptoms. At the hospital I was diagnosed with a grade 2 concussion. From that point onwards I was unable to leave my home, let alone attend classes, write papers, or study for my exams. I was unable to be in environments that were well lit, and I was unable to look at any type of screen. I was advised by my family doctor, and a walk-in doctor at CDK Clinic in Downtown Kingston to fly back home to Vancouver. Over the winter break I was unable to study for those courses, and after speaking with my professors we came to the conclusion that I would be better off dropping the courses at this point, rather than having to study for those courses along with my current courses. In Vancouver I had an appointment with my doctor, and she assured me that I would start to feel better as long as I continued to rest my brain. This last week I have been able to focus without getting headaches, and I am no longer light sensitive.
