Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it concerns,

Having changed a lot of things in the past few weeks for the start of this term, I've noticed that I have an abundance of peers who support me by studying after lectures and meeting up each week to go through major concepts. This has greatly increased my hope and outlook for the rest of my undergraduate studies. I've learned that I, myself, can't handle as much as I thought I could and that I shouldn't be afraid to ask for help when I need it. Although my friends don't know of my circumstances, they're the most patient and helpful group of people I have met since coming to Queen's. I'm very excited to continue this habit of being on top of my work, my hopes and goals have taken a very different turn than when I had first come to Queen's.

Because of extenuating circumstances, I was unable to attend lectures and focus to earn the marks that I could have in my courses. I would be short of breath and have stomach pains during lectures whenever I made it to lecture and night labs and tutorials were difficult to go through. This has been a journey of learning, both my abilities and my limitations. Using the widely overused question of what I would change if I could go into the past, I would change when I had come to seek for help. Had I listened to my gut feeling when it was the first sign of things getting bad I would be in a much better place and mind set now. That being said, if it is possible, I would like to appeal my grades; to drop the failed mark in Stat 243 and to have credit standing for my lower marks in Biology 201 as well as Geology 200.

If I am able to have those marks appealed, I would stand a chance in switching my major from classical studies to biology, where I hope to keep up with the constant studying to attain high enough marks to apply for Queen's medical school. This is where I hope to apply my experience and knowledge to become a doctor to serve the community that has helped me grow. This experience has left me with lots of scars but it has also given me a lot in terms of things I need to change and work on to be not just be a better student but a better person. Thank you for taking your time to review my appeal application

Sincerely,
April Ye
