Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Bénard,

I am appealing to waive the one term deadline to receive a credit standing in PSYC100, PHGY214, CHEM281, BCHM315, BCHM316 and drop CHEM 282 and 285. After requiring to withdraw from Queen¿¿s University for 3 years due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control, my priority was to seek treatment and figure out my future aspirations that I did not know at the time would be in the field of academia. The courses I am appealing were significantly affected during this time period.

My ongoing struggle with mental health issues due to unique family circumstances presented me with many hurdles that took precedence over seeking appeals to restore my transcript. Unfortunately, the appeal process at the time caused me a great deal of anxiety, which I have been continuing to seek treatment for on campus. I used my time away from academia to improve my mental clarity, perform well at my place of employment, and demonstrate a potential to academically succeed at Ryerson University in order to qualify for a return to my studies. Once I was generously granted to return after a requirement to withdraw, I consulted my program coordinator Ms. Denise Cameron to review my transcript. I was helpfully advised to not completely cover up my transcript for the sake of transparency when applying for subsequent programs in North American schools. However, due to my ineligibility for many Canadian universities, I have sought graduate programs internationally who have encouraged me to seek appeals.

I have worked hard to move forward from a difficult stage of my life that prevented me from taking quick action within the time frame required. Please let me know if you would like any supplemental documentation from me. I thank you very much for your continued attention to my circumstance.

Sincerely,

Janine Fung
