Petition Letter: Recipient: Associate Dean (Studies) Dr. Bénard
Email Address: f2deans@queensu.ca
Respected Associate Dean (Studies) Dr. Bénard,
I am appealing to you in order to enroll in GEOL 106 - 001 (Winter 2017) and PHYS P20 - 700 (Winter 2017) courses late this term. The enrolment of these two classes will allow me to graduate in the Spring of 2017.
The weekend following the last date to add courses, I was re-checking Solus, the Academic Requirements section of my degree, and I noticed that I did not have the required credits to graduate. In the outset, Solus stipulated that all requirements were met for my General Science Degree (90.0 Credit requirement). However, after removing the courses from my shopping cart that I did not enroll in for the Winter term, Solus requirements changed to 84.0/90.0 taken for my General Degree. I did not realize until too late that the courses in the shopping cart showed up as if I was enrolled in them, thus leaving me 6.0 credits short of graduating this spring.
On the first business day after realizing my situation, I called Queen's student services and was advised to appeal to you. I contacted the professors of each of the above courses, as well as both Undergraduate Chairs, and have acquired permissions for late enrollment in both courses from all the required parties. The proof of permissions will be included in the supplemented documentation as screen shots of each email I received, stating each parties' explicit permission.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Edward Ascan

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Respected Dr. Bénard,
In terms of an Academic Plan, I contacted the course coordinators and acquired the course syllabi, along with the future assignments that are coming up. I have acquired class notes for both courses from my peers that have taken this course last academic year, and have already begun catching up on the material. I will also ask the current students to share their notes once I am able to post on the OnQ forums, if the enrollment is granted. The weight of the graded material that I have missed will be added onto the future material that is coming up in the term, this way I will have all the graded weight by the end. In terms of difficulty of the courses I chose, I realized that all the courses required for the Biology degree I have already taken, therefore I found the above courses that matched both the interest/appeal and the light/lower difficulty factors. This way I shall be able to cope and do well with the course load of all courses I am enrolled in this term and the 6.0 extra credits will not harm my chances of graduating successfully.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Edward Ascan
