Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: As a student in GDNS 311 we were assigned to research and present a poster board assignment on a related topic. The assignment was due December 1st. I was put in a group with four other students. Group members tasked with creating the board left their work to the very last day, when they posted the final product I voiced concerns regarding some aspects, but they had submitted the project to be printed already. On January 3, 2017 I received a Notice of Academic Integrity Investigation from Dr. Tolmie. Area of concern wasn't my work. Advised Dr. Tolmie wished to discuss this issue, spoke to an advisor from Ombudsman office, supplied Dr. Tolmie with future dates and times available to meet with representative. Dr. Tolmie advised she wasn't able to meet as her decision was going to be rendered the next day. Advised Ombudsman office, subsequently Harry Smith involved himself, assisted me and arranged a meeting several days later. Days later I was advised that I was clear of any Academic Integrity Violation.
From the initial notice of investigation, Dr. Tolmie indicated that regardless of any finding of guilt, I would be receiving a failing grade on this assignment. I feel she has prejudged me based on this investigation she was now forced to complete. She failed to follow the Procedural Fairness guidelines set out by the University. Following my meeting with her and the Ombudsman she promised me a decision within 5 hours (end of the day). She verbally expressed she knew how anxious and upset I was about this, told me nothing bad would come of this.
5:00pm came and went. Four days later, after contacting Ombudsman office, I got an e-mail on a Queen's form indicating I was cleared. Dr. Tolmie advised a fellow student with a non-official, non-letter headed email that stated she too was clear and everything would be shredded. It seems that Dr. Tolmie has been treating everyone in this situation differently and not all the same and equal. Dr. Tolmie has displayed prejudice, bias and in general shows a disregard for the university and student guidelines.
For these reason I do not wish Dr. Tolmie to be involved in the appeal review.
