Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Jake Armstrong and I am a student currently enrolled in second year Physical Health and Educations at Queen's University. I have narrowly missed the deadline as I had hoped to drop these courses today (March 8th 2017) but the deadline without academic penalty was March 3rd 2017. After discussing with my academic adviser the prospect of transferring into a BA of Philosophy, that is what I am now set on doing. These PHEKIN specific courses would not add value to that degree plan and therefore I wish to drop them without academic penalty. I am making this switch because I am no longer happy with my degree path, I have learned I am becoming someone else with other interests. Animal advocacy is where my growth as an individual has lead my passion. I am looking to take philosophy in hopes of researching in animal studies. It is something I have been thinking about for a while, but it was just recently I was able to schedule this meeting with my academic adviser and solidify my degrees future. Remaining in these courses of study has been and will continue to way on me mentally, my head really just is not in them. I am still eager to study here at Queen's just in another area. I realize there could be the argument made that I could have done something about it sooner, but I have sort of lived in fear of making this decision until now, I have had great anxiety about my unhappiness in the program and not knowing if I could get out. I was not completely clear on the matter. It just so happens that my request to drop falls a few days after the deadline.

Thank you for your consideration of my request,

Best regards,

Jake Armstrong
