Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Associate Dean (Studies),
I am writing this letter of appeal as a request for a Letter of Permission to complete 9.0 credits during the summer term of 2017 with Athabasca University. I have already applied for two Letters of Permission, one with Dalhousie which I have completed (6.0 credits), and one with Athabasca which I am completing over the next few months (9.0 credits), as a replacement for one semester on exchange. All of these should appear on my transcript by the end of June.
Due to personal and financial reasons, I will not be able to live in Kingston next year. I would still really like to graduate with Queen¿¿s University, as I take great pride in being a Queen¿¿s student, however commuting from Toronto next year will be difficult. I plan on taking online classes for the remainder of my electives, however there are few Queen¿¿s online courses that are of interest to me, or that I am able to take when considering the prerequisites needed. Due to the flexibility of the Athabasca courses that will allow me to work part time, and the subjects of many Athabasca courses relating to my major, I find that taking these credits with Athabasca would be the best option, if I am able to.
My first concern is that I will not be able to take any more courses with another institution, as I have already taken a few, and I¿¿m in my third year. My second concern is that I am interested in one online French course with Queen¿¿s this summer, but I am unsure if I am allowed to complete courses with two separate institutions in the same semester. If not, I will take the French course during the fall semester instead. This brings me to my third concern, if I move this French course to the fall semester, it will be over one year since I have been enrolled in a course with Queen¿¿s, will this pose any problems in attaining my degree If you confirm that these will not pose problems, I would be eternally grateful to take these credits with Athabasca, so I can stay at home with my family.
I hope you are able to see this from my perspective, and that you agree this is the best move for my academic success and personal wellbeing.
Thank you for your consideration,
Emily Kellway
